The article describe the results of a survey conducted by specialists of the "Bilim" Information and Library Center with the aim of studying the reading culture among the population of the city of Tashkent, studying the preferences of potential readers of the genre variety of fiction, as well as improving the quality of information and library services and publishing products. The author of the article gives suggestions on the organization of libraries in mahallas, the popularization of family reading, the systematic conduct of actions in order to attract the general public to reading, advertising the activities of information and library institutions on television channels.
