ARTICLE ANNOTATION

quote
This article is dedicated to the identification of drought indices in the Piskom River Basin. The study utilized data from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) database. To assess the reliability of the CRU data, a comparative analysis was conducted against observations from meteorological stations. This comparison revealed differences and the degree of correlation between meteorological data obtained through two different methods, and a comprehensive analysis was performed. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the boundaries of the Piskom River Basin were delineated, and CRU data covering the entire basin were collected. Based on these data, drought indices were calculated and statistical analyses were carried out. The potential for drought forecasting was examined through statistical relationships between atmospheric precipitation and river discharge. The Hit Score index was applied to evaluate the quality of the forecasts. The results of the study confirm the high effectiveness of the CRU database for drought analysis and other climate-related research. This is especially valuable in regions where meteorological stations are absent or where observation data are incomplete. The use of CRU data enables the reconstruction and extension of climatic records, thereby enhancing the monitoring of climate change and water resources in the river basin.
