Bu maqola Stiven Kingning “Mizeri” romani adabiy tahliliga bag‘ishlangan bo‘lib, u psixologik “horror” asari sifatida muhokama qilinadi va muallif hamda uning auditoriyasi o‘rtasidagi murakkab munosabatlarni o‘rganadi. Asosiy e’tibor ikki asosiy qahramon — Pol Sheldon va Enni Uilks obrazlariga qaratiladi. Maqolada qahramonlarning dialoglari orqali ijodiy erkinlik, muxlislarning zo‘ravonlik darajasidagi fidoyiligi va psixologik tanglik kabi markaziy mavzular qanday ochib berilishi tahlil qilinadi. Shuningdek, ‘misery’ tushunchasi, janr konvensiyalari va asarning psixologik realizmi bo‘yicha olimlarning tadqiqotlari keltiriladi. Maxsus e’tibor Mixail Baxtinning dialogizm va polifoniya nazariyasiga qaratilib, u Pol Sheldon va Enni Uilks o‘rtasidagi o‘zaro ta’sir tuzilishiga tatbiq etiladi. Dialoglarning ijodiy nazorat uchun kurash ifodasiga qanday xizmat qilishi va Enni Uilks obrazining gender jihatlari, xususan, Holli Ketrin Makdonnelning gender rollarning liminalligi haqidagi tadqiqoti doirasida qanday talqin qilinishi tahlil qilinadi. Romanning metafiksion elementi ham muhokama qilinib, Enni Uilksning Pol Sheldondan Mizeri xarakterini “tiriltirish” talab qilishi natijasida haqiqat va xayol o‘rtasidagi chegaralar qanday buzilishi tahlil qilinadi. Shuningdek, King asarining muallif va tijoratlashtirilgan adabiyot o‘rtasidagi munosabatlar haqidagi metafora sifatidagi talqini ham o‘rganiladi, bunda mualliflik va janr talablari o‘rtasidagi ziddiyat yoritiladi. Maqola yakunida dialoglar asardagi asosiy taranglik yaratish vositasi sifatida tahlil qilinib, ular psixologik ziddiyatlarni ochib berish hamda ijodiy nazorat va erkinlik mavzularini metanarrativ kontekstda yoritishdagi roli ko‘rib chiqiladi.
