This article analyzes the problems of developing and improving the reading competence of future English language teachers, its linguodidactic foundations, and effective methodological approaches based on the integration of reading and writing instruction. Within the framework of the study, the significance of a system of exercises developed on the basis of a three-stage reading model – pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading stages – is scientifically substantiated in terms of enhancing students’ reading skills. Furthermore, the role of lessons organized on the basis of communicative and constructivist approaches in improving the quality of reading competence is highlighted with reference to both theoretical and practical evidence.
